Print

BoerBert's farm is located in the eastern part of the Green Heart, on the edge of Woerden which is a century-old town.

Green Heart

groenehartThe Green Heart is a variegated polder landscape surrounded by the large cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. It had its origin through peat excavation and is now a valuable piece of nature with old peat meadow areas and characteristic old-Dutch towns and villages, traversed by ditches and rivers.

Historical towns for culture lovers, numerous pools, lakes and rivers for water sports enthusiasts, great attraction parks for children and sufficient possibilities for active cyclists and walkers. Accommodation in the Groene Hart is also ideal when you wish to visit the cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht – you are there in only half an hour. And after the bustle and excitement of the city back into nature!

Woerden

groenehartbordWoerden is founded in the Roman ages. The Romans built a castellum (Castellum Laurum), as part of the limes of the Roman Empire and thus part of the defense lines of the northern border of the Roman Empire. The Castellum was located at the present site of the medieval Petruschurch and surrounding church yard. During construction work on a new underground parking facility in the city center of Woerden, the remains of numerous old Roman buildings and a Roman cargo ship were found. During field research, a lot became known about the Roman time in Woerden: the location of the castellum, the zone of defense waters with the entrance road and the remains of a Roman cargo ship. In the underground parking facility results of this research are shown.

In medieval times Woerden was a town in the middle of wars. Many wars between the count of Holland and the Bishop of Utrecht were fought about the land of Woerden. Right now the defensive walls, moat and castle of Woerden are still left from those times. In Woerden you can see many more historic buildings as the Petruschurch and the old townhall. For all attractions in the area see things to do.
